Our policies

Unfortunately, we can’t provide cover for breeds that are banned by Australian Government or local authorities.

These include:

  • Pit Bull Terrier
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Perro De Presa Canario/Dogo Canario
  • Dingo
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Fila Brasileiro
  • Czechoslovakian Wolfdog
  • Saarloos Wolfhound/Wolfdog or any wolf hybrid

We also can’t cover any crossbreeds of these listed breeds. While we’d love to include every four-legged friend, these rules help us follow local regulations.

Yes, certain waiting periods apply depending on the type of claim:

Accidents or injuries: Cover starts at once – no waiting period.

Illnesses: Covered 28 days after your policy begins.

Cruciate ligament conditions: Covered 180 days after your policy begins.

Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS): Covered 365 days after your policy begins.

Yes! If you insure two or more pets, you’ll get a multi-pet discount which makes it even more affordable to protect your furry family.

The main difference is the amount we cover each year:

  • Light: Up to $2,000 a year for vet bills.
  • Regular: Up to $4,000 a year.
  • High: Up to $8,000 a year.

Each plan has different limits for certain treatments like cruciate ligament injuries, cancer, and tick paralysis.

To keep the cost of your policy low, we only cover essential unexpected vet care.

This means your policy won’t include extras like routine check-ups, dental care, behavioural therapy, or alternative treatments. By focusing on what’s important, we can keep our policies affordable for all.

For full details, read our policy wording.

We focus on covering what matters most – vet bills for accidents, illnesses, and injuries.

Depending on the plan you choose (Light, Regular, or High), we can also cover things like cancer treatment, cruciate ligament issues, vet consultations, skin conditions, and tick paralysis.

For full details, read our policy wording.

Yes, there’s a small upfront cost called an excess ($100 per claim made). After that, you’ll pay 15% of the vet bill, and we’ll cover the rest. This helps keep premiums low while still giving you great cover.

Changing or cancelling your policy

You have a 21-day cooling-off period from the date you bought your pet insurance policy. During this time, you can cancel your policy and be refunded if you haven’t made a claim within this time.

If you wish to cancel after the 21-day cooling-off period, we may deduct a pro rata portion of the premium along with any reasonable admin fees.

To cancel your policy, you can speak to our team on 1300 894 464 or drop us an email at info@covermypet.au.

Renewing your policy

Each year, we’ll send you a renewal document with all the details of your policy for the upcoming year. If you’re paying by Direct Debit, no need to worry, your policy will automatically renew unless you tell us otherwise. But if you paid upfront, simply reach out to us to arrange your renewal payment.
